As part of Facebook’s campaign to stop the spread of fake news, Instagram is now hiding Photoshopped photos.
Supposedly, Instagram should only flag photos that spread misinformation to the public. However, in its current state, Instagram’s system hides both fake news and digital art. San Francisco photographer Toby Harriman was the first to report this as he saw @mixsociety_’s photo of rainbow-colored hills flagged as False.
Instagram uses signals such as community feedback and 45 third-party fact-checkers to help identify, review, and label false information. Once a photo has been flagged as false, Instagram would remove it from the Explore tab and Hashtags. Users may flag photos that spread misinformation by tapping on the more options icon, tap Report, tap False Information, and then tap Send.
