Union Bank of the Philippines has introduced a new feature called Mobile Tap-to-Pay, allowing customers to make payments using their smartphones instead of physical cards.

Available through the UnionBank mobile app, the service turns NFC-enabled Android phones into virtual debit or credit cards. Users can link their UnionBank Visa cards and simply tap their phones on any Visa contactless terminal worldwide to pay.

“This is more than just a new feature—it’s a customer-first innovation that offers security, speed, and convenience,” said Albert Cuadrante, UnionBank’s Chief Marketing and Experience Officer.

To keep transactions safe, UnionBank uses Visa’s tokenization technology, which replaces card details with encrypted codes. The app also supports biometric authentication for quick and secure access, and lets users easily manage which cards are linked.

The feature works at millions of contactless terminals globally, supporting both local and international purchases.

UnionBank is one of the first banks in the Philippines to offer native tap-to-pay functionality directly within its mobile app—highlighting its commitment to digital innovation.

“Whether it’s grabbing coffee, shopping on the go, or commuting, Mobile Tap-to-Pay makes every transaction smooth and hassle-free,” Cuadrante added.
